Declaration of Members Interests: updated legislation:

From the 29 June 2026, Local Authorities will not be required to publish an elected Member’s home address in local authority registers of interest.

The new section 32A of the Localism Act 2011 (as inserted and made by section 65 of the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026), makes clear that a Member’s home address should not be disclosed on the authority’s public register of interest, unless the member has requested otherwise.

Member Declarations of Interest references to home address details should be removed and record “Home address – detail withheld under section 32A of the Localism Act 2011” as appropriate.

If you consider the detail of any other interests, including a second address, could lead to violence or intimidation of you or your family, you continue to be able to apply to the Monitoring Officer to have these classed as “sensitive interests” of which details must not be made public.
