Further waste collection update from UDC Peter Holt

We have today received confirmation that the Office of the Traffic Commissioner has granted our interim operator’s licence – this means we can get our waste collections vehicles and crews back on the road from today.

The priority remains this week to clear the backlog of non-recycling and food waste caddies in areas that have not had a collection since Wednesday 24 January. If your bins have not yet been emptied, we will be round to empty them so please leave them out.

We have been operating a partial collection service over the past two weeks, relying on other operators stepping in to kindly assist, including Widdington Recycling and Braintree District Council’s in-house waste crews, for which we are extremely grateful. We will for a short while continue to call on extra support to help us get on top of any backlogs, as well as getting back to operating our usual collections on the regular scheduled days.

Next week we will be running a full collection service to empty recycling bins and food waste caddies. In addition to all our normal vehicles and crews, we will be using extra trucks and staff to provide capacity to work through the backlog.

We are working on a plan to resume garden waste collections as soon as possible and will provide an update shortly.

Please bear with us as we clear the backlog over the coming days and begin to return the service to normal – there is more rubbish to collect because of the disruption which means our crews may get round a little more slowly and the vehicles will fill up more quickly resulting in more trips to empty them.

We sincerely apologise for the disruption to this important service and thank you for your patience.

There will be a further update later with details of where we will be collecting over the coming days. We currently have crews out in FarnhamManuden and surrounding areas, BroxtedDuton HillLindsell and Molehill Green, as well as in Saffron Walden and Stansted to complete any outstanding collections there.
